Partially Solved
May 31st 2008 by Sou in Fun, Personal, Movies, Books, YouTubeI finally understand why female literature students swoon over Mr. Darcy from Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. I haven’t read the book yet, but instead, I watched the 2005 adaptation starring Keira Knightly. Why haven’t I read the book yet? Simple. For the last three years I’ve struggled to read past the third page. I’ve even gone as far as getting the audio-book and trying to read while listening to the narrator, and that didn’t work either. Surprisingly though, I watched the entire movie last night without flinching from my seat, and I really, really, really liked the movie.

Who knows, maybe now that I’ve watched - and liked - the movie, I can probably read the book without feeling like burning it to a crisp. Finally my problem with Pride and Prejudice is partially solved!

Till next time world.

I watched it yesterday, too! ShowMovies, yeah?
The book is good. I hope you enjoy it;)
Amethyst: Yeah, 8pm on ShowMovies, haha. When that was over, I watched What Happens in Vegas…so yeah, if I fail Phonetics & Phonology, I’ve only got movies to blame. :p
LOL
I can so much relate to a problem with Pride & Prejudice. I have problems reading past the 3rd page myself! I heard the movie is good..but I want to read the damn book..
Have I mentioned that I actually borrowed the book from a friend of mine and ended up loosing it? We are still friends and we bring the topic up occasionally for jokes :)
A friend of mine had to write a summary of each chapter in order to pass, guess i’ll download it see if it any good
You’re tagged!
u know who’s a HUGE Mr. Darcy fan !!??
F.
she loves Darcy, and if i’m not mistaken she loves -so far- every Mr. Darcy in the movies adaptations of the book :p
i swear to god every time i see Mr. Darcy (actually every Mr. in Austen’s books :p ) i remember F. immediately lool
GJoe: You’ve got a problem getting past the third page?! Yeb2a it’s cursed! Cursed I tell you! You know, I think you should watch the movie then read the book - the only exception in the reversal of book-movie order. :p
TAT: A summary of each chapter?! Ouch! The poor thing! Make sure you watch the 2005 adaptation, and tell me what you think. :)
Amethyst: Your tag is evil and I hate it! Most of your answers are what I would’ve written! :p
Angel: Hahaha, well she’s an English lit. student, I totally understand her infatuation with Mr. Darcy!!
You had to show Keira Knightley ? You just HAD to show Keira Knightley?
Aaaakh…. Keira…..
*Takes eyes off laptop monitor and sticks them back in his skull*
Umm.. Hello sou! Nice blog :)
Can I come back and read more stuff?
eee I feel like I need to ask permission for some reason…
Hamad: Permission? Haha, well that’s a first! Of course you can come back and read more stuff!!
Yeah, I just had to put a picture of Keira, terrible, aren’t I? :p
Sou! you hwatch the BBC production its even better!
I was watching it too the other day :P
I guess if finals don’t go well, we’ll have to blame it on Darcy ! God he was hot!!!
But the BBC Darcy is hotter, trust me and watch it :P
D: Hmm, where can I get my hands on the BBC production?
OMG!! I love Mr.Darcy… I mean this is one of my all time favorite books if not *the* favorite! I’ve seen like 3 or 4 Pride and Prejudice movies but I haven’t seen the Keira Knightley version yet, and right now on the top of my to watch stack (a real life stack), is bride and prejudice, which is a bollywood production with similarities to the original text. Did I mention that I lent the book to a friend and she ended up losing it? Anyway, we are still friends and we bring the topic up occasionally for jokes :)
Deee: I take it your friend is GJoe? lol.
I’ve seen the Bride and Prejudice’s trailer! It’s CUTE!
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!!!!
I am so PROUD of you!!!! You have finally eliminated all previous PREJUDICES against this piece of art, and see how much you love it!
Ok…enough of that…ehm, that was pretty cheesy actually…right.
Anyway…Mr. Darcy *flutters lashes with intense vigour*
The BBC version is REALLY REALLY GOOD just as D. mentioned. Colin Firth plays Darcy in that one…need I say more…
I shall not and you will have to excuse me as I can no longer sit still on my seat…my heart jumps for joy at your happiness. I need to dance!
F: Hahaha!! You’re so adorable hun!! I mean you’re actually excited about a fictional character! Adorable!!
I’ll have to watch the BBC production, where can I get it though?!!
Virgin Dubai probably ;P
F: La wallah? Well I’ll just hitch a ride on Jazeera and pop down Virgin Dubai; easy as that right?! If only. *sigh*
Actually, the 2005 version has been criticized for some serious modification of the actual content of the novel for cinematic purposes. That’s why I refuse to watch it. I also refuse to watch Keira and her ever present pout ruin one of the most (excuse me for saying this) bad-ass fictional female characters. The BBC version is excellent, though.
I can’t really understand the hate you have/had for this book, Sou. It makes me sad, dammit!
Most Jane Austen books drag a bit in the beginning but they’re (especially P&P) worth your patience.
I wouldn’t lie to you, would I? :P
Ravine: I never read the novel, so I wouldn’t really know what they’ve modified - I don’t care either. Don’t hate me, haha.
You’re right about Keira’s pout - ya Sater!!!!
I’ll try to look for the BBC production, seems like it’s everyone’s favourite! Makes you sad that I hate the book? Ma3lesh, ma3lesh…you’ll get over it. Plus, who knows ya3ni, I might actually defy expectations and read it.
I don’t know, would you, Ravine? Would you? :p
