On My Fingertips
December 16th 2006 by Sou in Music, Personal, Photography, University, YouTubeI’m writing this in absolute darkness. No, I haven’t isolated myself, I’ve already had enough isolation to last me a year. Thing is, the electricity is out, I can’t see anything apart from my laptop’s screen and I’m really tired; so tired that I’m actually nodding off!

I had such a hectic day at university this morning. I had a test at 8am and I don’t know how I managed to write five pages (in 50 minutes) on Ghirlandaio’s portrait of Giovanna Tornabuoni.

I really liked the painting and even though it doesn’t seem possible, but there is much to write about! The painting if filled with hidden symbols and allegories. What I love the most about the painting is the epigram on the right side of the painting: “Ars utinam mores animumque effigere posses pulchrior in terris nulla tabella foret.” (Art, if only you could portray mores [morals] and spirit, there would be no more beautiful picture on earth). Written by Martial, a Roman poet in the first century AD. That’s probably one of the smartest things I’ve ever read, if paintings could portray the inner most deepest thoughts of a person, then the painting would be flawless.
It was raining cats, dogs, camels and goats today! First time it’s rained like this since the winter started! Although I don’t like cold weather, I didn’t mind it today at all. There was something about the rain on my face that filled me with serenity, and every raindrop made me feel better inside. Speaking of rain, I’ve been listening to ‘Rain’ by Madonna for a few days and I was waiting for the right time to put up. The song is beautiful, but only to those who can relate. Enjoy.
Till next time world.
Ta ta for now :*

Glad you are feeling better. Thrilled you did alright on that exam. Too bad about the power failure (possibly due to the hard rain, not sure they are properly equipped). Hmm, interested, how about a crash course on art appreciation. What else did you like about the painting?

Sweet Lemon: Go ahead and analyse it! I’d love to read what you’ve got to say about it :)
Susu: I know! Really meaningful :) Glad you liked it toooo
I love your taste in music, but sometimes it makes me sad :( Serenade me with twinkle twinkle little star. It’s never a sad song!
I liked the quote Sou, but what struck me more were some of your own words: “There was something about the rain on my face that filled me with serenity, and every raindrop made me feel better inside.”
The other quote was nice too, but only if we were all truly wonderful human beings. “Good morals come from a life lived in sin, void of curiousity.”
i meant saying that i love the way U analysed it hehe i can never do that im not a litreature kind of girl:p
Will: “Up above the world so high” It’s a sad song, poor star’s twinkling up there on its own!
Well, the rain really did fill me with serenity; it’s a beautiful feeling.
Sweet Lemon: Oh! Thanks so much! I’m sure you can analyze a painting if you really put your mind to it! You don’t have to be a Lit gal! :)
