Nawart Masr! | August 9th 2006
Aywa ya ged3an! Ana nawart Masr! (talk about an ego problem! lol)
I’m really excited that I’m in Cairo! I’m “home” Can’t stop thinking about the fact that I didn’t see one non-egyptian when we drove away from the airport, NOT ONE! It kinda, in a way, is a culture shock; where the heck are the other nationalities - okay, mesh mawdo3na now :p Oh…and the cars, where the hell are the traffic lights!?!!
So the only place in the whole house with a working phone port thingie is in the kitchen…So i’m sitting on a plastic chair, my bum’s numb and connected to the internet using dialup connection…If that isn’t torture, I don’t know what is :p Oh wait, to top it up, I tried to transfer the pictures I took on my mobile phone onto my laptop, and my effed up bluetooth decided to die, GAH! I’ll borrow my uncle’s mobile cable tomorrow morning and I’ll post them up :)
Surrounded my a living room full of family is a fabulous thing, I had the time of my life really - and that was just the first day! All my cousins [who are all under the age of 7] were running around like loons! Yass went crazy too! Glad to see her have fun with kids around her age. She has taken a liking to wiping the ceramic floor with her hair (don’t ask!) El nadafa min el eman bardo :D
I need to start calling my friends over here! I’ve got to meet’em allllll! I’m only staying here for 2 weeks, I want to make the most of it! 3ala ra2y Nerro on my last post, I don’t want to miss “fatfoutet fun”!!
My brother just walked into the kitchen and said, “Sou, tomorrow I’m going to be Egyptian! I’ll go to the video store, rent new movies and check if they’ve upgraded to DVDs! Then on my way back i’m going to foot 3ala el ba2ala, I mean supermarket, wait Sou, not supermarket, I meant subermarket!” So how is that Egyptian?! *thinks* Isn’t that like, normal? My brother ba2a, a3mel eh? :p
I want to go to the movies, I want to go to the moooovviiieessss!! I can’t do that tomorrow though because tomorrow at 7 it’s my cousin R’s “leilet henna” [how on earth am i going to explain what that is to those of you who don’t know!?!! *thinks*] Well, leilet henna is erm, when a woman, comes and like draws henna patterns on all the gals who are going to attend the bride’s wedding (the bride being R)…Kinda like a bachlorette party without the strippers…henna instead [oh…fun!]
Oh, this just came to my mind…I cried on the airplane [more like caused a tiny scene] I was watching ‘Moulin Rouge’ on the inflight thingie and I’ve never ever watched it till the end…and I really wished I hadn’t! I started crying like there was no tomorrow. The airhostess thought that I was suffering from a panic attack, she brought me water and tissue! I tried to explain that I was “alright”, but I couldn’t stop crying! It’s such a beautiful movie, with such a tragic ending, and boy can Ewan McGregor cry or what (he’s cute too…has anyone seen him in ‘Down with Love’ yummy!)
There’s no A/C in the kitchen and I’m about to drown in a pool of sweat! Wait, there IS an a/c unit in the kitchen! But I can’t switch it on or like, the electrical system will have heart failure..or some weird blah blah :p
For those of you who don’t know what I meant in my title…
The ‘Nawart Masr’ (Your Light up Egypt!) Campaign comes as the successor to the much praised ‘Ebtesamet Masr Matetniseesh’ (Egypt’s Smile is Never Forgotten) Campaign which was present throughout the Middle East last year.
So yeah baby, SOU NAWARET MASR!! ;) ;) ;)
Time to sign of. Till next time world!
Ta ta for now :*
