“Before cancer I just lived. Now I live strong.”– Lance Armstrong

Have you noticed the popularity of these wristbands in Kuwait? Well if you haven’t, i sure have! Nearly everybody on campus has one on!

It all started out when Lance Armstrong, one of the world’s best cyclists, was diagnosed with cancer in 1996. After battling and surviving it, as a tribute to Lance’s inspirational fight against cancer, yellow wristbands engraved with his mantra, ‘Live Strong’ were, and still are sold to raise funds for the ‘Lance Armstrong Foundation’.

That’s the story behind the livestrong writsbands, great concept, don’t you think? But there’s something that’s pissing me off. You see, they’re very popular on campus, like i said, nearly everybody on campus is wearing them, that isn’t my problem tho, my problem is the fact that most of them have no idea what the real message behind the wristband is!! They don’t know what it symbolizes, or what it supports!

“Who gives a f**k, they’re ‘in’, that’s why i’m wearing it!”

Yup, a guy at university actually responded back when i asked him if he knew what his wristband supported. COME ON PEOPLE!! Get to it, get up, DO something! You can’t just buy something without knowing what it’s for!!! I just wish i could gather all the students on campus and tell them what it’s about, they’ve GOT to know!!

I haven’t got one of these wristbands, i can’t seem to find them anywhere, everytime time i ask anybody it’s always, “I got it from London”, “I’m sorry i got it from America”, “Hmm, i don’t know if they sell them here, i got mind from Paris” I won’t give up on my search tho..i’m looking for a yellow wristband which symbolizes general cancer support and a pink wristband, which symbolized breast cancer awareness support. The pink wristband is much more important to me, since i support breast cancer awareness as a priority; so if anybody knows where i could get them in Kuwait, PLEASE tell me, i would truly appreciate it!

I LOVE THAT BRACELET :D

and advice to people who wear it for the fact that it’s “in”: “don’t wear them for that reason because people will end up asking your why your wearing it, so la etgosoon your faces for a fashion statement”

Sou | March 21st, 2005

Wow. I’m actually surprised these things are so popular worldwide. Only recently did I discover it wasn’t just a local thing.

I have one. I got mine free from the school’s Key Club. I really don’t wear it, though. For some reason lately, I’ve been believing that it was bad luck.

You can probably get it online. Ebay would surely have them.

JaCkie: YEY!!! I’m glad you’re supporting it! When you find some, tell me! :D I’m also looking for the ’stand up, speak up’ wrisbands:)

Dave: Heeeloo! Hehehe, haven’t seen you here in a while :)

Yup, they’re actually quite popular here, only they’re popular in the “fashion sense” *sigh* when will ppl learn?! O well, at least there are a couple of ppl that understand the true meaning, take Geo, SwAiR and JaCkie (and myself) as an example!

Wear your bracelet dave, show everybody that you support the cause! Btw, i hope you find your passport soon!! :)
