Flu, RM, Books, Doodles and Mika

My throat still hurts, my body aches and it feels as if my limbs are going to fall off. Maybe it’s the medication? Maybe my body’s getting too weak? I took a look at my face in the mirror a while ago and the circles under my eyes are really dark and it looks like the life just drooped out of my eyes. I look so tired, so, so tired.
How was my first day back to classes? A pain in the derrière, thank you for asking. My first class was at 8, not bad actually, we’ll be reading Pride and Prejudice and Romeo and Juliet then watching their film adaptations. Statistics was interesting as well. How? Well it was more shocking than “interesting”. The professor was speaking a mixture of English and Arabic (which was a pain actually) but hey, it’s better than teaching it strictly in Arabic.
My second day was a nightmare. If my History professor said one more racist comment about Egyptians I would’ve walked out of the damn class. Here are two of the many things he said:
“I see you’re an English major. You’re Egyptian, right? Do you speak English the way Egyptians do? Do you say, ‘zis and zat’?”
You know, Egyptians are famous for hitting each other with slippers.
WHAT THE HELL IS HIS PROBLEM?!!! He’d speak about Kuwait for a few minutes then ask me a random question about Egypt, not any question though, just the idiotic kind. I answered back and honestly, I don’t care what the hell he thinks of me, he can’t go around talking crap about my country. He made my blood boil. I’m going to see if I can switch to another section, because I won’t be able to stay in the same class as this racist moron. Apart from the disturbing history class, my other classes are going really well.
My books arrived two days ago, I’m starting to read ‘Muhajababes’ and I’m looking forward to reading the chapters in which Allegra Stratton writes about her experiences in Cairo. The chapter titles are ‘Designing the Revolution, I Need a Right, The Cairene Sensei, The New Eve, The Problem With Being Rewish and Daddy Come Home.’ [If you’re using Firefox, my library isn’t working right, the background seems to have disappeared and I can’t really fix it, so I’m sorry for any inconvenience it’s caused anyone. Good news is, it works fine in Internet Explorer.]
I’m also eading ‘Pride and Prejudice’ and it’s boring, totally and utterly boring. I’ve got a gazillion pages left and I can’t keep up with it. I was in the cafeteria reading it and I got so bored, put it away and started to doodle instead.
Speaking of doodles, I quickly sketched Racist Moron, I hate the guy, so I’m not really sure why I sketched him. I puzzle myself sometimes.
The first doodle was done while I was listening to Mika (I’m obsessed!) I’ve got bits and pieces of lyrics written from most of the songs on his album. Thing is, I enjoy his music a lot, I really do, his music is upbeat, catchy and he sounds great live, what’s not to like? Not to mention his taste in fashion, the man’s a genius, lol He wears the brightest colours known to mankind! Turquoise trousers, orange t-shirts, red trousers and pink t-shirts…need I go on? Oh my, Mika mentioned in two consecutive posts, I wonder what this means? Absolute obsession!
I’ve got class in an hour and a half with RM and I’m not looking forward to it at all. I wonder if he’ll actually hand us our course syllabus - haha, that made me laugh. He doesn’t seem the ’syllabus’ type. He didn’t even bother getting off his chair last class, did I mention he was 10 minutes late? The things I have to go through for an education; students nowadays are warriors, warriors I tell you!

Oh my. Pride and Prejudice. You should watch the original film first. It’s close enough to the novel. But let me warn you, it’s boring too. Over 5 hours of utter boredom. I think it was a series and our instructor fooled us and made us watch the whole thing in 3 sittings, I can’t remember. I heard the new version with Keira Knightley is a bit better. But I don’t wanna take my chances.
RM. You know in such situations I would become racist myself. You know what Kuwaitis are famous for? Nevermind. I have Kuwaiti friends and I wouldn’t want to offend them for one RM.

I’m sure of your IQ, you can come up with something very smart and very Egyptian to make him look like a complete idiot!!You see, you can just walk out now, cause its just a class, but what if it happens later on? Consider it practice.. Let him see what we’re made of!
Hey! I can’t believe the guy. I’m offended and I’m miles away. I agree with Dee, stay in this class and attempt to re-adjust his twisted mentality for all future Egyptian students.

Jux: Thing is, there are 2 other Egyptian girls in my class, I’m the only one he picks on. “So who wants to write up a project on Women in Kuwaiti history? Sou, did you say you want to write it? Okay, you’ve got it.” MA2OLTESH 7AGA! He always finds a way to cram me fel mawdou3! ouff

Operon:I started a new doodle in History class!!! He didn’t bloody teach us a thing! It took him 30mins to read out the attendance sheet and the rest of the class he was joking around, he didn’t speak about Kuwait once, NOT ONCE! I’ll show you the new doodle when I’m done with it :)

Well, I’ll give RM a piece of my mind…you know, a girl sitting in my row turned to me and said, “you’re really brave, I love you, seriously!”…Sure she freaked me out with the ‘i love you’ bit, but hey, I knew what she meant, so it’s okay. I guess nobody’s used to standing up for something..or maybe they were never put through the situation I’m in. Hmm…

Hmmm.. come to think of it, I have a copy of Pride and Prejudice lying around, my last final is mid-march, after which I’m totally free, I can read it and we can sorta discuss and share comments and thoughts. Kinda your personalized long distance book club :)

Try to change out of that moron’s class if not then try to speak to the head history teacher although I doubt they’ll do anything but seriously, better yet try to ask some of the English Department teachers since they are wonderfully helpful.
As for the flu I’m sorry babes that you’re sick, I feel the same way except its my throat that is killing me, I fear my tonsils are enflaming and deflaming themselves LOL!

I have some harsh and somehow offensive arabic proverbs for that rm. Mind me, I’m very angry. It’s very easy to stereotype people and make fun of them, yet , this only represents weaknes ( as we say in egypt, osr deil ).
As for the proverbs, here’s a couple that may be irrelevent, but these two just popped into my head.
1) al-kelab ta3wy w al-qafela taseer ( dogs bark and the convoy continues its journey )
2) al-shagara al-mothmera wa7dah torma bel7egara ( only the fruitful tree is stoned ).
And sou, I would be very proud of you if you have the talent of ( tahzee2 bel-zo2 ).
By the way, I’m commenting here during my first night on duty at the hospital.

And last but not least, Don’t You Go calling P&P Boring! You hear? E7em lol…sorry it’s one of my favorites. Jane Austen books usually start out sort of boring for the first couple of chapters but they pick up nicely after that.

I don’t normally like romantic novels/movies etc. but I bought it a few yrs ago to see what the big fuss was about and didn’t expect to like it at all but I ended up loving it (and loving Mr.Darcy..damn you for not existing in reality Mr.Darcy!) .
