DECEMBER 1st: AIDS Awareness - BMX-ing! | December 1st 2005
Did you know that RED is the colour of the day.
Why?
Because it’s December 1st!
So?!
It’s HIV/AIDS Awareness Day! And red ribbons are used to symbolize AIDS Awareness!
And you really think people here give a rat’s ass?!
The Red Ribbon symbol was first launched in the UK in 1992 as a way of visibly showing compassion for those individuals affected by HIV and AIDS. Since then, it has become the international symbol for HIV and AIDS awareness and has been worn by over 100 million people worldwide. By the end of the decade, The Red Ribbon had become one of the most widely recognised symbols in the world.

Did you know that in…
North Africa and the Middle East
The notion that this region has sidestepped the global epidemic - perhaps due to strict rules governing sexual behaviour - is not supported by the latest estimates, which indicate that 67,000 people acquired an HIV infection in 2005, bringing the total number of people living with HIV/AIDS in the Middle East and North Africa to an estimated 510,000. AIDS killed a further 58,000 people in 2005.

So are we going to do something about this?! Are we going to get off our butts and do something?! Of course we are! And the least we could do is wear a red ribbon. So go ahead, wear a ribbon; not just on the 1st of December, oh no! But everday; show everybody that you want to make a difference.
And remember…
*****************************************************I got this invitation a couple of days ago…
You are invited to attend the ‘EASTPAK Ramp Rebels’ event. The best 4 bikers and stakteboarders in Europe will be presenting a show you can’t afford to miss!
2pm, 1st and 2nd of December in Marina Crescent!

I went this afternoon and it was awesome!! So one of the skaters fell once or twice, but it was super cool!! God! I never knew what all the hype on BMX-ing was about; NOW I DO!! I wanted to get up there and ride that bike to infinity and beyond!!! Only i’d break an arm or a leg, maybe my neck! :/ Anyway, it was amazing!! AMAZING! The BMX-ers are on an International tour and so far they’ve been to: Morocco, UAE, Lebanon, Jordan, Germany, Hungary, Belgium, Netherlands—and Kuwait of course (duh!) hehe..
I went alone since M’s mom came back from Egypt the other day and M couldn’t make it out! (M, did you get the SMS i sent you?!) So i went alone…BUT…I wasn’t really alone because nearly an hour later, guess who showed up?!
7tenths and Doctor Lost!
Doctor Lost lent his voice to the advert on the radio for the event, and he’s written about it here.
Here’s a little part for you to read incase you’re too lazy to click on the link button:
i just say a list of the sponsors.. apparently they only used me coz my voice is deep… apparently.. anyways, if u hear it let me know..
It was great meeting them!! It’s odd how when bloggers meet, it’s as if they’ve known each other since birth! Quite odd, but it’s super relieving because you don’t have to go through that awkward introduction phase, haha…All i had to do was wave (like a lunatic mind you) and I was recognized straight away!! So after we said our hellos we met up with Nina and Muslim Artist. (M.A. I totally love you hair!!) It was gr8 meeting them! They were so much fun!
Nina asked if we wanted to take pictures with the BMX-ers and I dunno why i came up with this erm, suggestion of somebody taking their bra off and handing it to one of the guys to sign. I liked the idea so much i was contemplating doing it myself! Could you imagine the look on the people’s faces?! HA! It would’ve been awesome; a total “Kodak Moment”! LOL! But i mean, they wouldn’t be able to sign it, their autographs wouldn’t really show due to the bra’s “color restrictions”, lol!
Ok, enough on the bra talk! Here are the videos 7tenths took using my mobile phone (i was too short to really see much!)
This one biker (who’s name escapes me at the moment) totally rocked our socks off!! He was awesome!! I’m totally baffled…I think his name was Phil…ok, i’m not sure, i’m going to have to check and update later :p

So i had a busy day; it was something to keep my mind off a lot of things! I had fun, and that’s what counts! I met new people and they were gr8!!Oh, and about Shattered it might be real or make-believe; your call ;)
Time to sign off. Till next time World!
Ta ta for now :*
